Social position and personal versus social focus: A multinational study of managerial values

چکیده
Managerial positions involve influencing others, hence the importance of studying standards guiding managers' attitudes, decisions, and behavior. Drawing on structural theories psychological findings effects subjective social status, we predict that holding a managerial position is related to individual value structure via self-perceived rank those in positions. We argue associated positively with prioritizing values reflecting personal focus (self-enhancement openness change types) and, as consequence, negatively (self-transcendence conservation types). Using data from European Social Survey 2012 (N = 48,105) 29 countries, found mediating effect status between versus not moderated by country context. discuss implications these for hierarchy practice.
